Autumn, Life, Loss and Light

As long as I’ve been taking photographs, Autumn has been my favourite time of the year. I love both the colour and the light, and there’s something cosy about the impending dark days of winter that makes it a special time of year. Recently though, loss has turned my favourite time of the year into a very difficult one.

Video: Photographing Autumn in Dublin City

In this video I went for a wander with my camera around Dublin City to show that you don’t need to go to the countryside to photograph the wonders of Autumn. If you live in a city there’s plenty of Autumn colours and scenes all around you. If you liked my “Street Photo Diary” series, this is basically the same formulae only without the street photography!

Photographing Autumn Textures

Autumn is by far my favourite time of year for taking photos, but sometimes I feel like I’ve done it all before. I’m always trying to do something different, to shake things up a bit, and so recently I had an idea. Instead of doing the usual and focus on the autumn colours, I would instead see if I could make some interesting images of autumn textures.

Autumn Gold

Autumn is now in full flow and it really is my favourite time of the year for photography. The Autumn light in Ireland is beautiful. The slow change of the seasons starts to bring a warm and golden light to the country as the sun is lower and lower in the sky. Throughout the season this effect becomes more and more profound. Combined with the colours this can make for some great Photography.

Autumn Lightroom Preset Sale

In case you missed this on my store blog, I’m having a half price sale on some of my Lightroom Presets at the moment. In order to celebrate the arrival of Autumn, my favourite time of the year for photography, I’m reducing the price on a selection of my Lightroom Presets by half.

Enhancing Autumn Images with Landscape Gold for Lightroom

A while ago I created a set of Lightroom presets called “Landscape Gold”. In fact, I had originally created the set for Aperture, and it was one of my more popular sets. The idea was to add a “golden” touch to landscape images, and it’s particularly effective at this time of the year. With all the autumn colours, Landscape gold can work well to give them an additional sheen (pardon the pun) and in this post, I’ll give you some examples as well as some tips for working with the presets

Autumn Wallpaper Pack Available

Autumn is my absolute favourite time of the year for taking photos. When the leaves on the trees start to take on their seasonal colours the landscape takes on a beautiful sheen of red and gold, there is a certain magic about the place. But it’s not just the trees, and the leaves that make Autumn special. It’s the light too. Over the years I’ve collected a large variety of Images from Autumn. I have lots of different types of Autumn images, from Landscapes to close-up images, and from this selection, I’ve created a set of wallpaper images that I think will work well as desktop wallpapers.

X-Pro 2 Video: "Dappled"

I was walking through a local park here in Dublin the other day, and I loved how the low Autumn sun was creating these lovely patterns of Dappled light on the ground. In the shadows of the trees there were patches of sunshine that danced as the breeze blew the leaves. It was quite beautiful and relaxing, and as I had my trusty X-Pro 2 with me I decided that I would shoot some video as well as stills.

The First Days of Autumn with the X-Pro 2 and Steely Blue

I've said this many times on this blog, but Autumn is my absolute favourite time of the year. I love the golden leaves on the trees and the Autumn light. While the season is only beginning here in Ireland, already the trees are starting to turn. The once dense green foliage has started to thin out and the canopy of leaves has gone from a deep lush green, to a speckled patchwork of green and gold.

Capturing Autumn in Dublin City on the Sony A6000

I’ve said many times on this site that Autumn is my favourite time of the year for photography. I’m sure this is the case for may photographers out there. The combination of colour and light make for some beautiful scenery. It’s well and truly into winter now and I thought I’d look back on the lovely fall season that we’ve just had. Here in Dublin we’ve had a beautiful Autumn. It was very warm and we were blessed with some lovely sunny days. It certainly made the season even more beautiful here in Ireland.

Video: Autumn in the Park - Shot on Sony A6000

As I've mentioned many times on this blog, I really love Autumn. I love the colours and I love the light, and I wanted to capture it in a different way this year, so as well as shooting lots of photos (more on that to come) I set out to shoot some video too. In the centre of Dublin city there is a famous park, called "St. Stephen's Green". It's one of my favourite places in the city. It's not a particularly big park, but it's a lovely combination of trees and walkways, and when viewed from certain angles, looks like you could be somewhere in the countryside, and not in the heart of a city.

Street Photography Diary No. 7: Autumn in the City

Autumn has begun in earnest here in Dublin city, and the city trees are starting to turn form the rich summer green to the beautiful gold of Autumn. Not only are the trees changing, but the light is too. I love the Autumn light. Being relatively far north here in Ireland, the Autumn and winter months bring a lower Sun which gives it a warmer colour and longer, more dramatic shadows.
