Capture One 22 Version 15.3 Released

Capture One 22 Version 15.3 Released

Seems to be the day for updates! Not long after Adobe went live with the latest round of updates for the Lightroom and Photoshop ecosystem, Capture One has released the latest update for Capture One. Bringing the version number to 15.3 the latest update to Capture One 22 features several new features, a refined interface, and improved tethering.

New Tool Tab Interface

The first key new features of this release is a revised tool tab interface, which now uses a new layout, and icons which better match the iPad version of Capture One. The new layout groups things a little differently than the older version, and at first, you may find things a little confusing.

The colour tab is gone and most of the adjustments are now all in a single group called “Adjust”. This includes most of the tools that were previously in the colour tool tab. However, “base characteristics” is now in the “Style” tool tab, which also includes the Styles and Presets tab.

If you don’t like the new layout, you can change it back to the old one by selecting “Default Legacy” from the workspace pop-up menu. You can of course customise the new layout as always by adding and removing your own tools to the various tool tabs.

Wireless Tethering for Sony

Capture One 22 now support wireless tethering from Sony cameras. The following cameras are currently supported:

  • Sony A7R IV/IVa
  • Sony A1
  • Sony A7 IV
  • Sony A9 II
  • Sony A7s III
  • Sony A7C
  • Sony FX3
  • Sony ZV-E10

Save to card and computer when tethering (Canon)

When tethering with a Canon camera, you now have the option to both save to the card and the computer simultaneously.

Magic Eraser

This is basically the eraser version of the magic brush that was introduced with a previous version of Capture One.

Cloud Transfer

This allows you to import images from Capture One for iPad directly into Capture One via the cloud. Notice that this doesn’t seem to be a sync like Lightroom, but rather a one-way transfer. Note: I’m unable to test this, so that is just what I understand from the release notes – I could be wrong

Metal support on Intel

The acceleration for the intel version of Capture One on the Mac has been re-written in metal (it was previously Open CL) which should improve stability and performance on the intel version of Capture one

Other Features

There are a couple of other minor features with this release and these include:

  • Support for multiple DPI scaling (Windows)
  • Style Packs now ask for permission when installing (to save accidentally installing multiple copies of a pack)
  • Crop Aspect Ratio saved per image
  • Comments (beta) in Capture One Live
  • Easier watermarking in live sessions
  • Auto Keystone Guides placement (It now picks the best location to show the guides)
  • Preview size recommendation (Capture One will now recommend the best preview size setting when running Capture One for the first time.)

There are a few other minor things, some bug fixes and camera support, and you can read the full release notes here on the Capture One website.

The update is available now, and you can find it by choosing “Check for Updates” from the menu (it’s in the Capture One menu on the Mac - sorry, not sure its location on a PC)
