Video: How to do “Dehaze” in Capture One
In the post I wrote yesterday about Capture One, I listed some of the things that it doesn’t have that are features of Lightroom. One of the things that I didn’t mention was Dehaze, and a reader Kindly pointed this out. The thing is though, you can achieve a similar effect to Lightroom’s Dehaze in Capture One, but it’s just a little bit more work to set up. In order to show you how to do this, I created a little video..
Basically, here are the steps that you need to do.
Create a new filled Layer
Apply a luminance mask to the layer, with a falloff all the way from black to white. (See the video for instructions)
Adjust the contrast, highlight recovery and brightness of this new layer. You can also add some clarity if you wish.
You can now use the Layers opacity slider to control the overall effect.
Once you have done this you can save the contents of this new layer as a style and then you can streamline this process in the future. I realise that this isn’t exactly the same as Lightroom’s Dehaze, but in the tests that I’ve done it provides similar results. It is a little bit more work, but it still doesn’t take too long.
