Get Aperture to run on MacOS Catalina with this hack!

There are still people using Apple’s long discontinued Aperture app, and as an early proponent of this application, I can understand why. Despite all the competition out there, there are still things that Aperture did better than most of the current applications. When Catalina was recently launched, it spelled the end for Aperture, as the software would no longer run on the new operating system. However, a clever programmer has come up with a solution.

Developer Tyshawn Cormier has created an application called “Retroactive” that will modify the Application to enable it to run on Catalina. Not only that, but it works on iTunes and iPhoto too! In order for this to work, you have to have Aperture installed on your computer, and there may still be issues with the application in Catalina, but according to various reports it does still run.

I haven’t tried this myself yet, as I don’t have Catalina running on my main computer (it won’t run on my old Mac Pro) but if you want to try it (at your own peril) you can get the Retroactive App on GitHub.

As an aside, despite Aperture being discontinued several years ago now, my Aperture book still sells a couple of copies every month.
