Video: 5 Things I miss about Aperture

Video: 5 Things I miss about Aperture

Following on from my post the other day about using Aperture again, I created a little video showing the 5 features that I miss the most about using Apple’s discontinued software.

While there are obviously more than 5 things that were unique to Aperture, in this video I talk about my personal favourite features of the software, and I demonstrate them as best I could. In particular I look at the following

  • Import speed
  • Raw + Jpeg Handlling
  • Modeless interface
  • ExtendedRange Curves
  • Metadata Handeling

When doing a practice run for this video, when I first set ut to demo the import speed, I actually thought that I had done something wrong, because it was so fast, I thought I was looking at the wrong thing.

There are lots of other thing too of course. For example, customisable keyboard shortcuts comes to mind. Since writing that piece the other day, I’ve gotten a lot of feedback, and I’m amazed that this topic still strokes the passion in people, both good and bad. Lots of people have told me that they are still using the software, and I received some emails using … lets just say “salty language” about the topic.

On elf the things that I forgot to mention, was that my Aperture book is actually still selling. I’m not trying to plug it or anything, I am actually surprised that people are still buying a book about software that was discontinued several years ago. But every couple of months I get a sales report from the publisher, and while it’s only a few copies, the book is still selling.

By the way, if you like this video, please help me grow my YouTube channel by subscribing, or even just giving the video a like. Every little helps! The more people who can find it, the more I can justify the time it takes to make videos like this.
