Street Photography in Acros: Fuji X-Pro2 Straight from the Camera

Street Photography in Acros: Fuji X-Pro2 Straight from the Camera

As part of my ongoing Fuji Jpeg book project (which is progressing - but still a little bit away) I recently set about working on some recipes for getting various looks. One of the main things I wanted to try, was to see if I could get something similar to “street pan” in look. This is a type of film that gives you high contrast black and white and is a popular “look” with photographers who shoot street photography on film.

By using the “Acros” film simulation modes as a base, and by tweaking the highlight and shadow tone options, as well as playing with the dynamic range settings I was able to get a similar effect. It’s not quite the same, but it has a nice look all of its own. If you’re wondering what the exact settings are…well, you’ll just have to wait for the book.

These shots are all direct from the camera. On one or two there may be some straightening in Apple photos, but other than that, these are straight form the camera.Of all the film simulation modes on Fuji’s cameras, I think Acros is my favourite, and in my opinion is the most film like. I wish they would use some of that special sauce and add it to some of the others. (Yes, before you send me hate mail, I know the rest are all good too - but there’s something really nice about Acros)
