Video - Street Photo Diary: Episode 1

Video - Street Photo Diary: Episode 1

For a while now, I’ve been running a series of posts here on this blog called “Street Photo Diary”. I’ve also been practicing and testing various setups to allow me to produce “Vlog” style videos. After much testing and messing up, I have finally come up with a reasonable setup and idea, and that is to make a video version of my “Street Photo Diary” series. And so, a new monthly (for now) video series is born, also called “Street Photo Diary” !

In this first episode, I look at doing some street photography using my Fuji X-Pro 2 and an adapted Nikon lens. In future episodes I’ll be using various other combinations, including other mirrorless cameras, DSLRs, film cameras, compacts and so on. The show will be a mixture of technique, theory, and my philosophy of shooting, as well as some nice shots of wherever I am at the time, which more often than not will be here in my home city of Dublin, Ireland.

There is still room for improvement of course, and I’m going to keep working on improving my technique for recording these, but I’m happy with it for the most part. The audio still needs a little improving, but that’s mostly down to the editing side. Even so, it’s much better than my previous attempt.

In terms of how I recorded the episode, I used a variety of techniques. The main “Vlogging" camera was my Sony A6000 mounted on a gorilla pod. I also used an old GoPro mounted on the X-pro 2 for poverty shots. I was trying to get buy with the gear that I have, but if its successful, I’ll try and upgrade to better options. My GoPro is really old and kind of crap, so that’s the first thing that needs to be replaced. The A6000 turned out surprisingly well, considering. I was able to manage, even without a front facing screen, by looking at the lens, a and checking for my reflection in the front element. Of course, a proper front facing screen would be better.

Anyway, it took a good bit of work to put this together, so I hope you get something out of it. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel too if you can. I’m almost at 1000 subscribers, and I get to unlock a few new features when I do, so please subscribe!
