DXO has just released a major update for its Nik collection of software tools. The new version which is available now contains numerous upgrades, as well as an all new tool: Perspective EFX. Here are two of the key features:

> Perspective Efex

Perspective Efex automatically corrects geometric flaws in your photos. Using either automatic corrections or reference lines, Perspective Efex can correct keystoning in urban and architectural photos, no matter how complex. It’s the quickest and easiest way to fix the most complex geometric distortions – including barrel, pincushion, and even fisheye distortion. Use Perspective Efex to instantly correct distorted figures and faces that often appear at the edges of group and wedding photos taken with wide-angle lenses. It’s the perfect plugin for creating natural-looking family and wedding photos with a more pleasing look!

There’s a cool one-click miniature effect in Perspective Efex. Its one of the few things I’ve played around with so far, but it’s really nice. There is a lovely quality to the blur it uses. I’ll have more details when I get to try more tools. Incidentally, they all seem to work in Capture One too.

Funnily enough, I only bought the collection last week. I did so as part of a project. I had the old versions from back before google bought (and subsequently sold them). When I just saw the news I thought I was going to have to pay full upgrade price, but in fairness to the company, they gave me a free upgrade. I didn’t even have to contact them - it was there waiting for me when I logged in. Kudos to DXO for good customer service there.
