Shooting the Summer Solstice Sunset (With a Fuji X-Pro 2)

Shooting the Summer Solstice Sunset (With a Fuji X-Pro 2)

I was in Galway yesterday, which was the longest day of the year, and I wanted to capture the sunset over Galway bay looking out to the Atlantic. As it was the longest day, it was kind of a special sunset, marking the end of the lengthening evenings and the start of the long march back to winter. Unfortunately it was cloudy, but there was still some nice light, and the beach at Salthill in Galway is dramatic in and of itself.

As the sun went down, the sky got a deeper and deeper blue, and the light became more etherial. Towards the time off the actual sun setting, even though it was behind clouds, I found my way onto a quiet section of the beach, and the gentle lapping of the waves, with the eerie blue light and distance sound of seabirds was quite an interesting and surreal experience. Images were taken with a Fuji X-Pro2 and 18-55mm lens. I also had a Nikon 105mm f/2.8 which I used on a few shots via an adaptor.
