Video: Scanning film on a 20 Year Old Film Scanner

I recently came across a set of negatives that I took about a year ago, and I realised that I had never properly scanned them. This gave me the opportunity to record the process, something I had wanted to do for a while, but had never gotten around to it. So, in this video I show you the process of scanning film using a dedicated, if somewhat old, film scanner.

I’ve talked about the scanner on the blog before, but for those who aren’t regular readers, it’s a very old Canon FS4000 dedicated film scanner, that somehow still works. The software I use with it is called Vuescan, as Canon has long since stopped supporting it with an official driver. The scanner isn’t perfect and does have some issues caused by its age. For example, there is often a line of dead pixels on images scanned, so I’m guessing some of the elements are no longer functioning properly on the scanning head. Even so, I’m impressed that it works at all.
