Heppenheim, Germany

Heppenheim, Germany

After my trip to Berlin last week, my wife and I travelled by train to Frankfurt and then on to the picturesque town of Heppenheim. This sleepy little hamlet is nestled in the hills of southern Germany among vineyards and forests and is a beautiful setting with gorgeous old medieval buildings and according to Wikipedia, the town has 408 cultural monuments that are under monumental protection.

I absolutely loved my few days there. It's such a beautiful little town, with it's timber framed houses looking like something out of a fairy tail. Our room looked out onto the rooftops of all these buildings making for a very interesting and pretty view. The old part of the town is on a hill and at the top is the town square which itself is postcard material. This leads on to an impressive cathedral. On another hill opposite the one where the town is, stands a castle on the top of the hill which itself is covered in small vineyards. The town is beautifully kept, and many of the houses are beautifully adorned in numerous flowers and other decorations. It really is a lovely little place.

On my first day there it was raining, but the moody atmosphere led to some really nice shots. On the second day there were periods of sunshine, so I kind of got the best of both worlds. Here's a selection of images from the few days there. You can see more in this gallery of Heppenheim pictures on flickr.

Photos were taken on either my D700 (the rainy day shots) or Sony A6000 (Sunny day shots). The Nikon was using the Nikon 24-105 lens, and the Sony was using the kit 18-55 (which is not very good, so apologies). Processing was done in Lightroom, using a variety of Lightroom Presets as starting points (Both mine and VSCO Film )
