Street Photography Diary No. 9

Street Photography Diary No. 9

As Autumn becomes winter here in Dublin, I've been back out taking more street photography. The centre of the city is still a construction zone and will be for some time. That has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it offers some interesting opportunities for photography, but on the other hand, it makes moving around the city difficult, and it reduces the room you have when trying to frame things. Of course limitations can sometimes be a benefit too, and so I've tried to use the limited space as an advantage rather than a limitation whenever I could.

This latest collection is something of an eclectic mix. I was trying to come up with some profound words of wisdom to explain the shots, or weave some narrative thread to conjure up some kind of story, but there really isn't one. I've been shooting whenever I can and this is just the latest collection of shots from various photo walks. I do enjoy shooting street photography most of the time. Sometimes I get frustrated when I feel like I'm getting caught in a rut, but I like it when the right combination of timing, circumstance, composition and light comes together for an interesting shot. I loved the fact that I just happened to be in the right place at the right time for the guy feeding the seagulls. I really like the guys working on the tram way tracks too.

I managed to get to some other locations too. I shot on one of the famous Dublin beaches at Sandymount (not sure if it's technically a beach - more of a flood plain) and the coastal town of Dun Laoghaire (For those non-Irish members of the viewership, who might be wondering what the hell that collection of letters says, it's pronounced "Done Leary").

Gear wise, it's a sort of random collection. Most of these were taken with the Sony A6000, but there's some Nikon D700 in there too. Processing is done in Lightroom. I've used VSCO on some images, as well as some of my own presets. From my own collection, I've used "Bleached Blue" from my Bleached Bronze collection. I've also been experimenting with a new set which isn't released yet, but I'm getting closer. (It's called "Coffee Tones!)

By the way, in case you're wondering what all the construction is about, and you haven't read my previous musings on the subject, it's because they're expanding the existing "Luas" tram service across the city. You can read all about it on the official Luas Cross City website.
